Mrs. Laverne T. McGuire, 88, passed away Monday morning, January 30, 2012 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Central Baptist Church in Americus with Rev. Hugh DeLoach and Dr. Brian Myers officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at 3:00 PM Thursday in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends at Aldridge Funeral Services on Wednesday evening from 6-8.
Mrs. McGuire was born January 10, 1924 in Fitzgerald to the late Daniel Thompson and Serena Campbell Thompson. She was retired from Manhattan Shirt Company where she worked in the laundry department. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Amercus.
Mrs. McGuire is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Sandra M. Curtis & Phil of Americus, son and daughter-in-law: Gene McGuire & Kathy of Columbia, S.C., sisters: Vivian Griffin and Doris Downing, both of Fitzgerald, brother and sister-in-law: Gerald Thompson & Janet of Fitzgerald. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Roy B. McGuire, sister: Wylene Prescott, and two brothers: Everette Thompson and Wallace Thompson.
