Steven P. Augart, age 46, of Lexington, formerly of Venice, CA and Arlington, died Jan. 12, 2012 in Cambridge, MA, from complications of a brain tumor. Born and raised in Arlington, he was the son of Laura (D’Aloisio) Augart and the late Paul T. Augart. Steve was a 1983 high school graduate of the Commonwealth School in Boston. He graduated from Harvard University with a BA in Computer Science and Psychology, and continued his education at the University of CA, Irvine, graduating with an MS in Information and Computer Science in 1992. Mr. Augart was the co-founder of FTP Software and Sulcata, Inc., and worked as a software engineer at organizations and companies including the Information Sciences Institute at the University of Southern California and the IBM Watson Research Center. He was granted three patents related to geolocation and the Internet. In his spare time, he had an eclectic group of interests, including religion, curling, tortoises and science fiction. One of his great interests was the study of foreign languages. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Nancy E. Peponis, and his sons Dimitri T. and Matthew P. Augart-Peponis, all of Lexington, and his mother, Laura Augart of Winchester. He was the dear brother of Carolyn Augart and her husband Anthony Valdini of Winchester and Robert Augart of Arlington, and is further survived by several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Wed., Jan 18 at 8:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church 155 Washington St. Winchester at 9:30AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Tues. from 4-8PM. Interment will take place in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
