GLOUCESTER: Nancy L. (DeCoste) Howard, 82, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Russell T. Howard, who died in 1974.
Born in Gloucester on February 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Abram and Madeline (Silva) DeCoste. She was lifelong resident and graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1947.
Nancy was employed as the assistant manager at Bookends on Main Street for nearly twenty years before retiring in 1996. For the past year, Nancy had been attending the Boston Church of Christ, Northern Region and had made many wonderful friends there. She was also a longtime active member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
A loving and devoted sister, aunt and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carole J. and Charles Bouchie, Jr. and Jacqueline and Earl Williams; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Claire F. and Walter A. Papows; and her longtime companion Charles E. Langley.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the Beechbrook Cemetery Essex Ave., W. Gloucester at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
