Obituary

Michael P. Clifford, 67 of Provincetown and Key West Florida died peacefully at home on September 14, 2011.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, son of the late Phillip and Maryann [Rudy] Clifford, he graduated from Penn State University, earning a Master Degree in Finance. Mr. Clifford was a Senior Vice President for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Bank in Manhattan, NY for many years. In 1983 he relocated to Chatham, Mass. to care for his ailing Grandmother, Ivy B. Clifford.

After her passing, he purchased the Heritage House in Provincetown with his longtime partner, Robert J. Kulesza. Mr. Clifford and Mr. Kulesza managed the bed and breakfast for many years. They later owed and operated the Red Inn, also in Provincetown. After Robert’s death in 2001, Michael purchased and operated the Drake Inn. At the time of his death, Mr. Clifford owned and operated Provincetown’s’ Elephant Walk Inn.

Michael was active in community affairs and was instrumental in the development of the Lower Cape Health Associates. He served on its Board of Directors. An avid art collector, he enjoyed world travel, was passionate about the ocean and was a strong advocate for animal welfare.

A brother Leonard Clifford and a sister Eleanor C. Clifford, both of Wisconsin, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins survive him. He also leaves his long-time friend Scott A. Pare of Provincetown. Beside his parents, he was pre-deceased by his partner of 20 years, Robert J. Kulesza, a sister Ivy Clifford, and his grandmother Ivy B. Clifford.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 21st at the Provincetown Cemetery. The Rev. Gregory Howe will officiate. At Mr. Clifford’s request, a Memorial Fellowship will follow at the Elephant Walk Inn, 156 Bradford St, Provincetown.
