LUBY, Donna Dolores (Oakes) Age 93 (affectionately referred to by her family as "Meemee") of Wellesley, Massachusetts, passed away on April 15, surrounded by loved ones.
Donna was born on December 26, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Mr. J. Donald Oakes and Mrs. Dolores Marie (Ryan) Oakes. She graduated from New Trier Township High School in Winnetka, Illinois, in 1949, and went on to attend Western College for Women and the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School. On May 5, 1956, she married Mr. Donald M. Luby; together they had two sons. Married for over sixty-one years, Don and Donna had a loving and supportive marriage and, together, raised a wonderful family.
Donna was a friend to all with an active social life. She was an avid member of many community groups, belonging to the Weston Golf Club for over 45 years. Donna was a member of the Weston Golf Club Ladies Golf Group, Book Club, Women's Bowling League, and Bridge Club, an Honorary Member and past President of the Weston Country Garden Club, and a member of the Weston Community League. Donna was also a crafter, spending much of her time working on her needlepoint and Nantucket basket making.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Donna is survived by her son, Donald and his wife Katherine, of Wayland, Massachusetts; their son Brendon and his wife, Alison Holmes, and their children, Tabitha and Philippa of Weston, Massachusetts; their daughter Brittany, and her husband John Zippelli, of Glenwood, Maryland. Donna's son John and his wife Julia, of Wellesley, Massachusetts; their son John, Jr., of Brookline, Massachusetts; their daughter Christina, and her husband John Chadey, of Rock Springs, Wyoming; her brother William Oakes, of Sumerduck, Virginia, and many loving friends. Donna was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Services and Interment will be private. Donations can be made in her memory to Shriner's Hospitals for Children on their website.
