George W. Souther, age 77, of Norton, passed away ,surrounded by his loving family, on Easter Sunday , April 20, 2025 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Joanne M. (Smith) Barfield Souther, to whom he was wed for twenty-seven years.

Born in Boston, MA on December 15, 1947, he was a loving son of the late William and Myrtle (Martin) Souther.

George grew up in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston and was a 1965 graduate of English High in Boston. Following graduation, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, during the time of the Vietnam War. Following three years of faithful service, he was honorably discharged on July 13, 1968 with the rank of SP/5.

A resident of Norton for the past nine years, George formerly made his home in Randolph. Prior to retiring, Mr. Souther was employed as a security officer for Longwood Security in Boston and later when the company operated under the name of Securitas.

George’s family, who loved him dearly, were truly the essence of his life. He was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton, an avid bowler and a member of Ron’s Bowling in Hyde Park. George was an avid New England sports fan, a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed following horse racing on ESPN. At the time of his death, Mr. Souther was anticipating the birth of his third great grandchild.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Kimberly Impagliazzo and her husband David, Sr. of North Attleboro, Sara Barfield-Sims and her husband Adam of Rehoboth, George Souther of Pittsburgh, PA and Melissa Souther of Pittsburgh, PA. He was the cherished grandfather of Alexis, Brianna, Noah, Brodie, Rileigh, Bailey, Jenna and David, Jr. and the great grandfather of Mya and Elliana. He was the dear brother of Kenneth Souther of Norwood and the late Helen Suddard, Harold Souther and Sheila Kitchen. He is also survived by his many much-loved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, April 29th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

His funeral will begin on Wednesday, April 30th at 10:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton.

Military honors, rendered by the United States Army, will follow at the conclusion of the services. Burial will be private at a later date.
