Obituary

Jacqueline Logan Spencer, lovingly known as Jaci, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 84. Born on July 22, 1940, in Rockville Centre, New York, Jaci lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and joy.

Jaci was a proud graduate of St. Agnes High School in her hometown of Rockville Centre. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. Later in life, driven by an enduring desire to care for others, she pursued nursing at Bergen Community College and became a registered nurse—a role she embraced with deep commitment and pride.

Her professional journey as an RN began at Valley Hospital in the Oncology Department, where her empathy and strength brought comfort to many during their most vulnerable moments. She later worked in urology practices across New York City and New Jersey, continuing her mission of healing with grace and skill. Beyond her clinical work, Jaci extended her care into the community as a hospice volunteer—an experience that reflected her unwavering compassion and advocacy for those in need.

Jaci’s life was rich with interests that brought her joy and connection. An avid reader with a sharp intellect and love for discussion, she cherished her book clubs and the friendships they fostered. Her faith was central to her life; she was an active member of the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. She found peace and inspiration in nature—gardening with care, hiking scenic trails, enjoying time at the beach—and delighted in classical music performances at Tanglewood and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

She had a deep appreciation for fine dining and cooking, often bringing people together around delicious meals. Tennis matches energized her spirit; animals—especially her beloved dogs Chester and Jake—warmed her heart. But above all else, Jaci treasured time spent with family and friends. Her twelve grandchildren were a particular source of pride and joy.

Jaci is survived by her four children: Kevin Slayne, Brian Slayne, William Slayne, and Maura Slayne Ryan; her cherished grandchildren: William Slayne, Julia Slayne, Elliot Slayne, Tallon Slayne, Lily Slayne, Aiden Slayne, Quinn Slayne, Reed Slayne, Braden Slayne, Justin Ryan, Clare Ryan, and Connor Ryan; as well as her siblings: Marilyn O'Brien, Rev. William Logan, and Lorraine Geasor. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with grandnieces and grandnephews who will remember her warmth and humor.

She was predeceased by her former husbands Brian Slayne and Edward Spencer.

Jaci’s charisma lit up every room she entered. She had a wonderful sense of humor—often laughing heartily at herself—and brought lightness even to serious moments. Her legacy is one of kindness without condition; laughter shared freely; strength offered quietly; love given generously.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Cathedral of St. Agnes located at 29 Quealy Place in Rockville Centre, New York.

May Jacqueline Logan Spencer’s memory be a blessing to all who knew her—and may the love she gave so freely continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
