Obituary

Philip Greene Decker II
October 17, 1944 – April 7, 2025

Philip Greene Decker II, of Cicero, Indiana, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, in Florida. He was 80 years old.

Born in Pinehurst, North Carolina, on October 17, 1944, Phil was the son of Philip Howard Decker and Rowena McCurdy Ellis Decker. His family moved to Anderson, Indiana, in 1947, where they established Deckers Inc. Phil spent many summers working alongside his father in the family business.

Phil’s formative years were spent at Western Reserve Academy, where he thrived both academically and athletically, making lifelong friends and excelling in soccer and baseball. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Judy Green, at a dance with nearby Hathaway Brown School. They married in 1971, and together, they raised two children in Anderson, Indiana, where they remained devoted to family and community.

Phil attended Purdue University before transferring to DePauw University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity and graduated in 1967. He later attended Indiana University Law School, graduating in 1970. Phil began his 47-year career as a lawyer, spending the majority of his professional life at Decker, Lawyer, and Maynard before retiring in 2017.

Phil was deeply committed to his family, and his greatest joy in life was becoming a grandfather. As Poppa, he delighted in the time spent with his four grandchildren: Megan, Abigail, Mara, and Jack. His love for them was unmatched, and it was in his role as a grandfather that he truly shined.

In addition to his beloved family, Phil had many passions that brought him joy throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and a past member of the Anderson Country Club. A true history enthusiast, Phil loved reading, listening to oldies music, and spending relaxing days at Morse Reservoir.

Phil remained deeply connected to his Purdue roots as an active member of both the John Purdue Club and the Madison County Purdue Club. His faith was also an important part of his life—he was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anderson before moving to Cicero, where he joined Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

Phil is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith Green Decker; his children, Philip Greene Decker III (Erin) and Phoebe Decker Nicholson (Todd); his grandchildren, Megan, Abigail, Mara, and Jack; his sister, Lisa Decker Cosby (Pen).

Phil will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will leave a lasting legacy.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to long-time friend Kathy Eisbach. Her love, wisdom, and compassion meant the world to Phil and his family throughout his final journey, and her support will never be forgotten.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 1 PM on Friday, May 30, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Private burial will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery. A celebration of Phil’s life will be held on May 30, 2025, from 3-6 PM at Anderson Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Tell 5 Friends, 1395 North Center Point Road, Hiawatha, IA 52233; (www.tell5friends.org), a foundation created by his son to promote early cancer screening and provide support to those affected by colorectal cancer, or to the Purdue Alumni Club of Madison County, 1310 Riverene Way, Anderson, IN 46012.
