Obituary

Tony Waters, of Ventura, California, passed away on April 3, 2025. He was born in Los Angeles to Bill and Elizabeth Waters on December 19, 1940. Tony was a graduate of John Muir High School and the University of Southern California, for both his undergraduate and his law degree, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a Deputy Los Angeles City Attorney from 1966 through 1969. Tony was a resident of Ventura since 1970 and served as an Assistant Ventura County Counsel from 1970 through 2005.

Tony was a great man, an amazing father, and a loving grandfather. He was a pillar of the community and spent countless hours serving others. He was a prolific storyteller and had a wonderful sense of humor. Tony loved riding motorcycles in the desert and raced in the dez for over a decade. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America since 1990 in Troop 103 and Troop 128, and cheerfully served as a Vigil member and an Elangomat in the Order of the Arrow. Tony also volunteered with AYSO from 1987 through 2012 as a coach, referee, and board member. He was a founding member of the Desert Cheatahs MC, a life master bridge player, climbed every named mountain in the Mojave Desert, traveled to six continents, scuba dove off the Channel Islands, ran a marathon, and served his country as an Air Force Reservist. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs, the Blues, the outdoors, hiking, camping, cycling, drafting, woodworking, metalworking, stained glass glazing, photography, and chess.

Tony will be dearly missed by his son, Taylor, daughter-in-law, Melissa, grandson, Jackson, and former wife, Kathy. There will be a Celebration of Life to honor Tony’s amazing life on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Poinsettia Pavilion (3451 Foothill Road, Ventura, CA 93003).
