Mary Ann Burke (Gaffney) of Medford peacefully entered eternal rest on April 8, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving children in the comfort of her home. Born in Leitrim, Ireland, Mary was the cherished wife of the late Michael C. Burke, originally from Galway, Ireland. She was also the beloved daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Rooney) Gaffney of Ireland.

Mary had a special gift of making everyone she met feel important, with her warm, kind blue eyes and infectious smile. She had a tenacious spirit and the heart of an angel that she used in her profession as a caretaker. Mary had a passion for baking and loved sharing her homemade Irish and banana breads with family and friends, always accompanied by a warm cup of tea. Mary loved traveling back home to her family in Ireland, planting in her garden and going to bingo but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and caring for and spoiling her grandchildren.

She was the cherished and devoted mother of Mary Leahy and her husband Paul of Medford, Teresa DiCarlo and her husband Joseph of Cranston, RI, Bernadette Flaherty and her husband Daniel of Walpole, Eileen DiMartino and her husband Robert of Medford, and Michael Burke and his wife Teresa of Woburn. She was the proud “Nana” of Tiffany and her fiancé Mark, Jerry, Erin, Logan, Jackson, Frankie, Lauren, and Kyle, and the adored great-grandmother of Kaelyn and Ryleigh. Mary was also a cherished aunt to nieces and nephews and the dear sister of the late Kathleen Rooney and John Gaffney, all of Ireland.

Mary’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, MA, on Monday, April 14, at 9AM, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, April 13, from 3-7PM.

Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
