Joan M. (Snell) Scott, age 89, of Norton, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the Mount St. Rita Health Centre in Cumberland, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late John B. Scott, Jr., to whom she was wed for over fifty years at the time of his death on March 31, 2002.

Born in Boston, MA on September 16, 1935, she was a loving daughter of the late Arnold L. and Eleanor L. (Kershaw) Snell.

Joan grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and was a 1953 graduate of Practical Arts High School in Roxbury. After her daughters were born, Mrs. Scott returned to college and earned an associate’s degree from Bristol Community College and later a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Elementary Education from Stonehill College.

A dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, Mrs. Scott, along with her late husband John, was the founder of the First Dandelion Daycare in Rehoboth, which she operated for twenty years before retiring.

A resident of Norton for most of her life, Joan was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton and also attended services at the Chartley United Methodist Church. She loved spending time with her family, was a former member of the Attleboro Businesswomen’s Association and was an avid Bingo player.

She was the devoted mother of Karen L. Sigman of Norton, Kathleen M. Emond and her husband Gary of Attleboro, Cheryl A. Haviland of Attleboro, Martha E. Economou and her husband Matthew of east Falmouth, Joan E. Dunham of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jennifer A. Scott of Norton and the late Joyce R. Dufresne. She was the dear sister of the late Janet Nielsen, Evelyn Sherwood, Norma Noll and Elmer Snell. She is also survived by her cherished 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as her many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, April 11th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 12th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
