January 3, 1928-March 8, 2025
Jerry Snyder, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on March 8, 2025 in Ventura, CA. He lived his 97 years to the fullest.
Jerry was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon, in 1928, with his identical twin brother Tom. After graduating from St. Helens High School in 1946, "Tom and Jerry" joined the U.S. Navy, serving until 1948 (Jerry as an Electronic Technician, third class Petty Officer).
In 1952, the Snyder twins graduated with honors from the University of Oregon, where Jerry was Chapter President of fraternity Delta Tau Delta and earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. That same year, Jerry began an impressive forty-year career in digital computer development, working as a computer engineer and programmer. His career achievements have been archived in the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. While working, he also obtained a Master of Science in mathematics from USC.
Jerry never stopped learning, and was a voracious reader of nonfiction. He also enjoyed golfing, and playing bridge and cribbage.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Ann Ellsworth Snyder who passed in 2008; his parents, Frank and Ruth; his two brothers, Tom and Jim, and many dear friends and relatives.
Jerry is survived by his two children, Janey Cohen (Tim) and Jim Snyder (Nicole); his four grandchildren, Chris Cohen (Nellie), Katie Cohen, Andrew Terry and Bradley Snyder; and his two great-grandchildren, Dean and Auggie.
Known to his family simply as "Grampers", Jerry will be remembered for his drive, generosity, and unwavering support. In lieu of flowers, Jerry asked that donations be made in his name to the Computer History Museum (computerhistory.org) or your favorite charity.
