Giusto “Gino” DiMaiti, of Medford, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 23rd, surrounded by his loving family. He was 99. Born in theNorth End of Boston, he moved to Medford in 1953. He was the cherished son of the late Enrico and Maggie (Mungo) DiMaiti. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn (Mantia) DiMaiti. He was the devoted father of Carl DiMaiti and his wife Mary and the late Carol (DiMaiti) Stuart. He was the loving Papa of Carol and Andrew DiMaiti and the late Christopher Stuart. He was the caring uncle of Diane Leone and her husband Eugene Giacchino and Cheryl Leone and her late husband Ismael Sanchez as well as the grand uncle of Alex and Vicki Giacchino. Gino is also survived by many loving cousins and friends.
Gino worked as a pasta salesman for Viva Macaroni, tended bar at numerous establishments throughout Greater Boston, and owned Sonny’s Pizza in Chelsea until 1990. Despite suffering the tragic loss of his daughter Carol and grandson Christopher in 1989, Gino persevered and helped to establish a very successful scholarship program for young people from the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston in his daughter’s memory. Throughout his life Gino was an extremely friendly and social individual who maintained a positive attitude.
Gino was a man of profound faith. He loved to dance and could often be found on a weekend night at the South Side Italian Club in Woburn where he sometimes sang traditional Italian songs with the DJ. His love of music spanned the Big Band era of the 1930’s and 40’s, the Rock and Roll hits of the last fifty years and Country Western classics. He loved cars and took great pride in owning a Jaguar. He was most happy when performing the dual roles of Pastor Fasioli/Don Ziti in the Dillstar Production of Joey & Maria’s Comedy Italian Wedding along with spending time with his grandchildren and numerous friends. He often spent winters at his Florida condo. For the past two years he spent time participating in the programs offered at the Community Family Center in Medford.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with Gino’s family at Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Sunday, March 30th from 4 to 7 PM and on Monday, March 31st at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
