
Richard Lee "Dick" Dashler

Richard Lee "Dick" Dashler, 83, of Anderson died March 13, 2025 in Compassus Hospice facility in Indianapolis, after a brief illness.
He was born March 4, 1942 in Anderson to the late Dorothy (Garretson) Dashler and John Patrick "Jack" Dashler. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1961. He was married to Gwendolyn (Boggs) Dashler on March 29, 1963 at McCordsville United Methodist Church, McCordsville. They were married for 61 years. The couple had two children, Joan "Joni" (Dashler) (husband, Dr. Daryl) Cowan and Rodney Dashler.
Richard honorably served his country for four years during the late 1960's in the United States Air Force stationed in Montezuma, Libya as a cook.
From Indiana, the couple moved to Florida in 1973 and resided there till 2002. While in Florida, he worked in the Tax Office in Manatee County and was a church custodian till his retirement. In 2002, Richard and Gwen returned to Indiana to be with grandkids. Richard was very faithful to church attendance and service, most currently, Chesterfield Community Church of God. Richard was very good at arts/crafts and quilting. He painted many nature, sea escapes and southwestern Indian scenes. Richard is most known for his ministry of Beautiful quilts. He quilted many for friends and family especially the grandkids. His passion was making quilts for service men. He never charged for his work.
Richard will be missed terribly.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gwen (Boggs) Dashler; daughter, Joni Dashler (Daryl) Cowan of Pendleton; son, Rodney Dashler of Florida; nephews, Josh (wife, April and their son, Abel) Dashler of Greenfield, Dustin Dashler (wife, Courtney Steger and their daughter, Alaina Jo and son, Anthony James Levi) of Anderson, Brandon Dashler of Anderson; three grandsons, Alec Cowan of Anderson, Ryle Cowan of United States Navy and Nicholas Cowan of Pendleton; one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Cowan of Pendleton; aunt, Kay Garretson (Harry) Hedges of Anderson; brother-in-law, Daniel "Danny" Safstrom of Anderson.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Garretson Dashler, step-father, Virgil E. Dowden, father, John "Jack" Dashler; and sister, Glenda Dashler Safstrom.
Service will be at noon on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service with Dr. David Coplin of Chesterfield Community Church of God officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton with military rites by Daleville American Legion.
