Marie E. Barber Milam, 74, of Groton passed away March 7 at Apple Rehab in Old Saybrook Connecticut after a lengthy illness. She was born in New London at L&M Hospital on November 22, 1950, daughter of Charles W. and Anne S. Barber.
Marie attended local schools and graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in 1968. She spent most of her life in Groton and worked at several area restaurants in Groton and New London, last tending bar at Mohegan Sun Casino for 17 years. She loved to garden and took great pride in showcasing the flowers surrounding her home. She enjoyed sewing, home decorating and solving crossword puzzles. The companionship, devotion and love that gave her endless amounts of joy were the years she shared with her beloved cat, Emily.
Marie is survived by one son, Matthew Milam of Texas, two brothers, Charles W. Barber of Preston, David Barber of Groton, one sister, Margaret Barber of Groton, three nephews and several cousins. Marie was predeceased by her parents, a brother Peter S. Barber of Groton and sister-in-law Anna Maria Neilssen Barber of Preston.
Marie will be buried in Elm Grove Cemetery next to her parents.
