Obituary for Russell D. Field
April 2, 1956 – March 9, 2025
Russell D. Field, age 68, of Scituate, Massachusetts (known to many as Russ), passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 8, 2025, after a long and valiant battle with prostate cancer.
Russ was the son of the late Dana F. Field and Elizabeth (Betty) Field of Scituate. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy, and their three children: Russell D. Field II of Scituate, Jacqueline E. Field Magee and her husband Joseph Magee of Dorchester, and Lauren A. Field of Scituate. Russ is also survived by his sister, Linda (Field) Kulhowvick, and her husband George Kulhowvick of Weybridge, VT. Additionally, he is survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, great-nephews, and grand pups.
A lifelong resident of Scituate, Russ could never imagine living anywhere else. He was always at home on the ocean, whether he was mossing for Lucian Russo, serving as a stern man on various lobster boats, or trying his hand at his own lobster boat, The Black Duck, which he lost in the storm of 1978. In 1979, Russ joined the General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy, MA, where he was selected for a training program to become a welder. Known as “Too Tall” (due to his 6'5" stature) by his coworkers, he loved the work and the camaraderie. Russ truly enjoyed a solid day’s work.
In 1985, Russ left General Dynamics and started his own business with his wife, Kathy—Russell D. Field & Son, Inc. They provided rubbish and construction waste removal services to clients throughout the South Shore and Southeastern Massachusetts. In 2008, they sold the rubbish removal portion of the business and continued to operate the construction roll-off container business, which they still manage today.
A celebration of life service for Russ will be held on March 23, 2025, at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate, MA 02066, at 2:00 p.m. A reception with refreshments will be held immediately following the service at Rice Hall, next to the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute of Boston or the Scituate Animal Shelter.
