Obituary

Armindo “Eddie” Elmiro Bettencourt aged 84, passed away on February 16th, 2025 at Salem Hospital after a long battle with a chronic illness.

Born on July 10th, 1940 in Santa Cruz, Graciosa, Azores Portugal.

Eddie immigrated with his family to the United States on December 4th, 1948. He attended Peabody Public Schools and went on to serve in the United States Air Force (1957-1966).

Eddie was a jack of all trades, however his true passion was music. He first started to explore this passion at a very young age with his father, and continued on to perform throughout his adult life. He was a great singer and a skilled guitarist and electric pianist.
Throughout his life, Eddie always chose his own path, which is mirrored in the sentiments of Eddie’s favorite song; Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” which celebrates living life on one’s own terms.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Deolinda Bettencourt (Gil) and Manuel Cirino Bettencourt Jr. and his sister Elza Maria Bettencourt.

Burial service will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetary Bourne Massachusetts on Thursday, March 6th at 11:30AM.

Eddie was a proud member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Post No. 1.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Portuguese American War Veterans Post No. 1, 103 Tremont Street Peabody MA in Eddie’s honor.
