Carmela (Pece) Bavaro, age 85, of Medford, MA and Serra di Pratola, Avellino, Italy passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at her home on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Born on November 28, 1939 and raised in Italy, Carmela moved with her husband, Orazio Bavaro, and their children to the Boston area in 1972. Carmela was the daughter of the late Carmine and Giuseppina (Cesa) Pece and sister of the late Nazino Pece, Angelo Pece, Orlando Pece, Quirino Pece, Pia Zullo, and Filomena Salamon.
Carmela was the devoted wife of 64 years to Orazio Bavaro and loving mother of Audeno Bavaro and his partner, Michele D’Ampolo, Maria DiMauro and her husband, Michael DiMauro, and Erminia Piccinonno and her husband, Eupremio Piccinonno. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Michael, Antonio and his wife, Christina, Stephen and his wife, Susannah, Daniele, and Leonardo, and one great-grandchild, Enzo.
Carmela, or “Nonna,” as her grandchildren called her, was an incredibly caring woman who would do anything for her family and cherished being around her loved ones. Nonna had a passion for cooking and made the most delicious meals. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to spread joy through laughter. She will be sorely missed, and her memory will live on forever in her family.
