DOHERTY, Barbara (Browne) of Dedham, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 26, at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Doherty for 69 years. Barbara was the mother of six children: Kathleen Kenney and her partner Gerard Lucas of Roslindale, Kelly Lovely and her husband Charles Valenza of North Falmouth, Alison Miceli and her husband Keith Miceli of Wrentham, Paul Doherty of East Falmouth, Kristen Waters and her husband Greg of Mansfield and Robert Doherty of Atlanta, Georgia. Father-in-law of the late John Kenney. Loving grandmother of Ryan, Christine, Megan, Brendan, Connor, Christina, Jefferey, Jessica, Leanne, Joseph, Lauren, Gregory, and Colleen. Great-grandmother of Isabel. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Barbara grew up in Dedham, attended St. Mary’s of the Assumption School and graduated from Dedham High School. Barbara went on to graduate from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing where she worked and taught at Massachusetts General Hospital for many years. After retiring from nursing, she worked at Dedham Medical Orthodontics Department and then for the Town of Norwood Dental Department finally retiring at the age of 80. In her spare time, Barbara spent countless hours attending her children’s and then her grandchildren’s activities. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Monday, February 3rd, from 8:30 - 10:15 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, 420 High St., Dedham at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
