Antonio Nicola “Nick” Catricala passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his Medford home on January 15th. He was 73. A native of Olivadi, Calabria, Italy, Nick was the son of the late Nicola and Angela (Puntieri) Catricala.
Nick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. When Nick came to America, he initially lived in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston and worked in Boston’s North End, at restaurants, such as Cantina Italiana, Paradiso and Saraceno. Nick also worked as a machinist in a spring manufacturer for many years. In 2002 Nick opened Bocelli’s Restaurant in South Medford. There he created a fine restaurant, well known for its authentic Italian food and friendly service which soon became a local landmark. Nick loved the people of Medford and it gave him joy to offer hospitality, both at his business and at his home. His superior work ethic, the support of his family, and their appreciation for their patrons were part of the recipe for success. Nick met his future wife, Tina, over food, at a picnic. They married in 1978 and came to Medford in 1982. Nick enjoyed his family and had delighted in spending time with his 18 grandchildren.
