Daniel J. MacGilvray, age 77, resident of Woburn and The Villages, Florida, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Cianci) MacGilvray.

He was born in Medford on June 14, 1947 and was the son of the late Harold and Ruth (St. Denis) MacGilvray. Dan proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Later, he worked for Harvard University as a Patrol Officer, as a successful Realtor and the Chief Court officer for Middlesex Superior Court. Dan was a well known member of the Medford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1012, serving two terms as Post Commander. He also served as past Exalted Ruler of the Medford Elks Lodge #915. Dan was active in local politics, elected to the Ward One Republican Committee for Woburn. Dan loved Christmas and spent many Christmas Eve’s making children and families happy visiting homes as Santa Claus. When he wasn’t active in the community, Dan enjoyed hunting with his cousin and best friend Leo, trapping, fishing and
gardening at the Woburn community garden.

In addition to his loving wife Diane, Dan is survived by his daughters, Lorrie Lamb and granddaughter Danielle Lamb of Fate, Texas and Stephanie Chaves and late husband John, Sr. of Medford. Grandchildren, Erika Chaves and JC Chaves, Jr of Medford. He is also survived by his brothers, Steven and wife Christine of Maine and Robert of Tewksbury. Sisters, Ruth of Medford and Claire Maglio of Missouri. Dan is predeceased by brothers John, Harold, Allen and Kenneth of Medford and sister June DeRosa of Chelmsford. He was very loved by all of his nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford from 4 through 8 PM on Thursday, January 16th, and again on Friday, January 17th at 10 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
