12/27/2024

Anna Federico of Medford, formerly of Boston’s North End, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024. She was 85 years young.

Born on July 26, 1939 in Pettorano Sul Gizio, Abruzzo, Italy, she was the beloved daughter of the late Ermino and Velia (Presutti) Federico. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of twenty-seven years, Luigi Pietro “Gino” Federico. Anna was predeceased by her cherished niece Ermida Federico. Anna was a loving sister to her brothers Gaetano Del Monaco and his wife Elda of Sulmona, Abruzzo, and Domenico Federico and his wife Filomena Federico of Pettorano Sul Gizio. She was also the sister-in-law of the late Giovanni Federico and his wife Elisa, and the late Duilio Federico and his wife Ivana, all of Pettorano Sul Gizio.

Anna leaves behind a large, loving family, including her four children: Panfilo and his wife Nancy of Fishers, IN; Anita Bova of Medford; Manrico and his wife Karen of Burlington; and Tina Di Blasi and her husband Philip of Derry, NH. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Sara Hudson and her husband Scott, Gabriella Dawson and her husband Colin, Luigi “Gino” Federico, Rosanna Federico, Lucia Federico, Perseus Federico, George Bova, III, Stephanie Bova, Emilia Federico, Philip Di Blasi, Jr., and Thomas Di Blasi. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

A talented seamstress in her early years, Anna immigrated to the United States in 1967. She worked in Boston’s garment district for many years before she and Gino became the owners of a restaurant in Boston’s financial district. Later Anna worked for AraMark at Boston University, retiring to devote herself to the care of her grandchildren.

Anna was known for her love of cooking, baking, canning, and gardening. Her true passion was cultivating vegetables in her backyard garden, during the summer months, and sharing that bounty with her children, friends and neighbors. Anna was a devout Catholic. She found joy in listening to opera, a love she shared with Gino, who himself was an opera singer, watching RAI, and loved to dance. She was deeply committed to her family’s traditions, always sharing her Italian customs and values with her children and grandchildren.

Above all, Anna cherished the time she spent with her loved ones, whether entertaining friends, visiting her family in Italy, or simply enjoying quiet moments with her grandchildren. Anna’s warmth, generosity, friendly smile, and devotion will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Anna’s name to Saint Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, MA 02155.
