Obituary

GALES FERRY: Roger Allan Pendergraft, 69, treasured son, brother, and friend, a long-time resident of Gales Ferry, passed away late evening on November 22, 2024 at Elmbrook Village, Bozrah Connecticut while surrounded by loved ones.

Roger was born in Groton on December 10, 1954, son of the late Wilson Pendergraft and the late Betty Claudia Pendergraft-Levin. Rog was also the beloved stepson to the late William R. Levin.

A good student, Rog graduated 1973 from Ledyard high School and also attended classes at the University of Long Island, Southampton NY. During his college years he had participated in an adventurous archeological dig in Beersheva Israel.

He loved the outdoors, played golf, kayaked, and was an expert skier. He with his dad explored Jackson Hole Wyoming, outfitted to venture into the wilderness of Pendergraft Peak. His love of skiing sent him with several long-time friends all over Northern New England resorts, several ski areas in the Canadian Rockies as well as in Colorado and Utah. Further ski adventures were enjoyed in Innsbrooks’ Austrian Alps, and in Cortinas’ Northern Italian Dolomites.

The bulk of his working years was at Electric Boat, 39 years divided between the Groton, Connecticut and Quonset Point, Rhode Island divisions. He was a leader in the pipefitting department.

Roger is survived by his sister Janet McDonald and brother-in-law Frank of Norwich, sister Donna Jorgensen and brother-in-law Niels Jorgensen of North Stonington, nephew Donald Congdon and wife Jeanna and their daughter niece Christiana Congdon, nephew Lucas McDonald, Jennifer and their children Guliana and Jeremiah, niece Erin McDonald and youngest nephew Alexander Jorgensen. He especially loved his niece and nephews.

Roger’s family is grateful to the dedicated Hartford Health Care Hospice nurses and specialists who cared for him. We would also like to acknowledge special thanks to the caring staff at Elmbrook Village in Bozrah who over the last few years cared and got to know the humorous part of our beloved Roger.
