Catherine A. “Kay” (Mullane) Durante passed away on November 18, 2024, after a brief illness.
She was born in 1932 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and graduated from St. John the Evangelist High School in North Cambridge. She married William “Bill” V. Durante in 1959, and early in their marriage, she accompanied Bill to Germany for a year during his tour of duty. The couple settled in Winchester, Massachusetts, where she resided until her passing.
Kay spent many years working for the Town of Winchester, first as a clerk in the Town Hall, then as secretary to the Chief of Police. The Winchester Police Department was her second family, providing her with kindness and support over her many years of service, and beyond.
Kay is survived by her daughter Kathleen Durante of Campbell River, BC, Canada, her sister Patricia Jutras of Stoneham, MA, cousins Mary Ellen Mullane, Kathy Gately (Frank), Mary Ann Broderick (Daniel), Michael Dignan (Joanie), James Dignan (Susan), Mary McKinney (England), and Margaret Nelson (England), many nieces and nephews, and many dear and cherished friends. She is predeceased by her husband William V. Durante, parents Patrick and Margaret Mullane, brother and sister in law Jeremiah and Lorraine Mullane, brother-in-law Albert Jutras (Patricia), brother-in-law Vincent Durante, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia and Louis Adreani, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Theresa and George Lewis.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Winchester Nursing Center for Mom’s excellent care in her later years, and the staff at Winchester Hospital for ensuring her comfort in her final hours.
Visiting Hours will be held at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Tuesday, November 26 from 9-11 am, followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph Parish, 118 High St., Medford at 11:30 am. She will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Winchester Relief Association via the Winchester Police Department.
