**Gertrude (Gert) Mazonson Obituary**

Gertrude “Gert” Mazonson, born on October 15, 1924, in Lynn, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, at her cherished New York City home, just shy of her 100th birthday. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Gert radiated warmth, love, and a zest for life that touched everyone she met. She was a spark whose light grew brighter with age, ignited by a city where she finally found herself fully expressed and embraced.

As the second of three sisters (the “elder” twin by 3 minutes) born to Frieda and Michael Reichlin, Gert's childhood hinted at the spirit of resilience and curiosity that defined her. From adventures like flying to New York City at 16 for a Frank Sinatra concert to making fast friends in every corner she explored, Gert embraced life with open arms. As a young woman, she supported her family through diligent work and brought strength and joy to her marriage with Arthur Mazonson until his untimely passing in 1970. Gert persevered, raising three children—Susan, Judi, and Philip—with unwavering love and dedication.

In her later years, Gert began a remarkable transformation upon moving to Manhattan’s Upper West Side. She blossomed, forging heartfelt connections in her neighborhood, frequenting local businesses, and touching lives with her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and warm handshakes—despite her “cold hands, warm heart.” A true ambassador of love and connection, she built her own “neighborhood” through kindness and charm, winning hearts from deli owners to doormen.

Gert’s journey of growth continued as she embraced art, theater, and culture, often marveling with childlike wonder. Her spirit of exploration led her to become a cherished admin volunteer working with Dorot staff, and she was featured in their marketing materials. A passionate learner, Gert found joy in personal development, declaring at 94, “I know that I’m growing!” Her transformation inspired those around her, proving that it is never too late to grow, change, and live with intention.

Survived by her children Susan Mazonson (Edward Matluck), Judi Mazonson-Nossal (Mark Nossal), and Philip Mazonson, grandchild Ariel Mazonson Matluck, and step-grandchildren Erica Matluck and Jessica Matluck, as well as great-grandson Orion Kuhn, Gert’s legacy lives on through the lives she touched.
In honor of Gert’s legacy of love and connection, donations may be made to Dorot, an organization dear to her heart.
