Karen R. Brown, 103, of Derry, NH passed away Monday November 11, 2024, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Care of Derry, NH after a period of declining health. Karen was born September 14, 1921, in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the daughter of the late Alex and Anna (Johansen) Rasmussen. Karen moved to the US with her family at the age of 3 and grew up in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Karen joined the US Army during World War II and attended military nursing school in Texas. After receiving Registered Nurse status, she served in the European Theater as a nurse during the remainder of the war. Later Karen continued her calling as a registered nurse at various locations. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with her family. Karen was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration of Derry.
Members of the family include her two sons and three daughters. John R. Brown, Jr. of Horseshoe Bay, TX, Robert C. Brown of Derry, Karen Rue of Windsor Locks, CT, Patricia Brown-Kneisel of Wayne, NJ and Susan Brown of Sparta, NJ. She had nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Karen was predeceased by her beloved husband John R. Brown, Sr.in 1991, her two sisters, Elizabeth Brown, and Alice Waylett, and her brother Kai Rasmussen.
Visiting hours will be Saturday November 16, 2024, from 9 to 10:30 am in the Peabody Funeral Home and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street in Derry. An Episcopalian Mass will be held at 11:00 am at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 1 Hood Road in Derry. Cremation will follow services.
