CHICOPEE – Margaret A. “Peg” (Bassett) Tanner, 83, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, November 7, 2024. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by all the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on March 31, 1941, a beloved daughter of the late Richard W. and Mafalda (Fortini) Bassett. She was raised and educated in Springfield and moved to Chicopee in 1963 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed for over 25 years in the Accounting Department at Smith & Wesson in Springfield and retired in 1991. She was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who cherished all of the time she was able spend with everyone. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Foster W. “Foss” Tanner who was Called Home on June 27, 2016. They were married on January 11, 1963 in Connecticut and were blessed with over 53 years of happiness together. She leaves her cherished granddaughter, Kimberly Tanner of Newport, TN; her two dear sisters-in-law, Lynnette Moran and her husband, Jim, of Las Vegas, NV and Barbara Jacob, of Rindge, NH; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son, Raymond Foster Tanner who was Called Home on June 27, 1996; her dear brother, Ronald Cote; her two dear sisters, Corinne Cote and Lydia Ladoucer; and her two dear brothers-in-law, Jake Jacob and Edward Miller. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.). Her Burial will follow the Prayer Service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the Prayer Service.
