Sheila Mahoney Mutrie of Wellesley, 85, died peacefully in her sleep at home Sunday, July 21, 2024. Beloved wife of Francis Mutrie, Jr. for 63 years. Devoted mother of Francis Mutrie, III (Tripp) and partner Maureen Flaherty, Elizabeth Filipancic and husband Josef, and Brady Mutrie and wife Carole. Grandmother of Nicholas, Eliza, and Emma Filipancic, and Tade and Colin Mutrie. She also leaves behind siblings Nancy, Ellen, Bridget (John), Tade (Nancy) Mahoney and Kate House (Charlie) and in-laws Mary MacBey (Robert), Richard Mutrie (Lisa), and Beverly Mutrie (Charles, deceased). Also survived by many devoted lifelong friends who offered great love and companionship. The family would like to offer a special thank you to caretakers Carmen, Vera, and Josh who provided compassion and support to her over the years.
Mrs. Mutrie was a graduate of Kents Hill School of Readfield, ME and Regis College, 1960. She was a member of Wellesley Junior Service League and Tau Beta Beta. She volunteered at the local food pantry, taught CCD at St. Paul’s School in Wellesley and retired after 20 years from Mass Bay Community College. She was a devout Catholic, an avid tennis player, and enjoyed traveling to Siesta Key, FL and the Caribbean islands with husband Frank. Her family will forever remember her as a tough, resilient, and positive woman.
Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, 502 Washington St., Wellesley on Wednesday, July 31 at 11:00am. Reception to follow. Private Interment in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
