Clifton E. Downs, age 84, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving and adoring family on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte A. (Noonan) Downs, to whom he was wed for sixty-fives years.
Born in Wakefield, MA on July 19, 1939, he was a loving son of the late Glen F. and Phoebe (Carpenter) Downs.
Cliff grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Wilmington and was educated in Wilmington Public Schools. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past forty-seven years and prior to retiring, was employed as a truck driver for thirty-seven years at the Interpolymer Corporation in Canton.
Cliff’s family was the focal point of his life and he always had a special place in his heart for animals, especially his chihuahua’s “Sophie” and “Bailey”. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and will always be remembered for the pride he took meticulously maintaining his yard in Mansfield.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Leann Taylor and her husband John of Mansfield, Jeffrey A. Downs and his wife Lisa of Foxborough, Ronald E. Downs of Medford, and the late Jayne M. Downs and Clifton E. Downs, Jr. He was the cherished grandfather of Emily, Jillian, Molly, Zachary, Connor, Paxton, Jason and Jeremy. He was pre-deceased by his 11 siblings and is also survived by many-many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to his graveside funeral service on Tuesday, July 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
