Obituary

Mary McCauley, 70, passed away after a lengthy illness on May 6, 2024, at the Belvidere Health Care Center in Lowell. Born on January 11, 1954, she was the beloved daughter of the late William H. Delorey and the late Doris F. (Resendes) Delorey.

Mary worked many years for her parents business, Hancock Market and later Resendes Market, both in Braintree, MA. She went on to work in various retail roles up until her retirement in 2014.

Mary had a kind and generous heart to those around her. She was always ready to share the meals she prepared with friends and neighbors. Some of her favorite activities when she was able was spent exploring the woods and having a good time on the island at the local pond with friends. Mary enjoyed putting together countless puzzles, spending time with her beloved cat Bear, and watching what some may consider not so great horror movies.

In her later years, Mary found companionship and joy among new friends at the Belvidere Health Care Center, although reluctant at first, she ultimately embraced the spirited camaraderie of playing Bingo daily with her fellow residents with sass and laughter. The residents and staff became an extension of her family who had a tremendous impact on her quality of life.

She is survived by her daughters Kathleen McCauley and her husband Daniel of Fall River, MA, and Melissa LaPlante and her husband Benjamin of Bedford, NH. She will forever remain the loving grandmother of Devin and Samantha “Sammy” McCauley of Fall River, and Brooke and Jenna LaPlante of Bedford, NH.

In addition to her daughters and grandchildren, Mary is survived by her twin brother, Mark Delorey and his wife Doris, sister Patricia Ball and husband John, sister Catherine Delorey and husband Jim Connell, her dear friend and cousin Aurora DaRosa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by her unwavering generosity.

Mary was predeceased by her loving first grandchild, Richard James “RJ” McCauley, and her brother, William J. Delorey. Who she will be reunited with in everlasting peace along with her parents.
