Hilda Farabaugh Buck
July 22, 1917-April 28, 2024

ANDERSON – Hilda Farabaugh Buck, a devoted wife, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and active member of her community, passed away peacefully at her residence in Anderson, Indiana on April 28, 2024, at the remarkable age of 106.

Born on July 22, 1917, in Bradley Junction, Pennsylvania, to Edward C. and Mary (Baker) Farabaugh, Hilda led a life filled with dedication to her family, faith, and community. She married Cyrus R. Buck on May 22, 1943, in Loretto, PA. A resident of Greendale, Indiana for almost 70 years, Hilda made a lasting impact on the lives of those around her.

Throughout her career, Hilda held various positions, including Office Manager at Bender Electric Company in Carrolltown, PA, Secretary to the Assistant Chief of the Department of Public Assistance in Harrisburg, PA, and Secretary at the Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg, PA. After raising her five children, she worked as a Tax Examiner for the IRS in Covington, KY.

As an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Hilda's faith was an integral part of her life. She served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, and was involved in numerous committees including the Liturgy Committee, Church Decoration Committee, Christ Renews His Parish group, Daughters of Isabel Society, and Prison Ministry.

Hilda's passion for community extended beyond her church. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, the Hidden Valley Lake Garden Club, and became a Master Gardener, showcasing her love for nature and beautifying her surroundings. Hilda and her husband enjoyed traveling around the United States as well as internationally. Their favorite trip together was to Egypt and The Holy Land.

At the age of 77, Hilda's thirst for knowledge led her to take classes alongside regular students at Mount St. Joseph College in Cincinnati, OH. She took many classes, including Art, Photography, English, Poetry, and Psychology. It was there that she discovered her talent for writing poetry, and many of her poems were published.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus R. Buck, four brothers, six sisters, and son-in-law Dick Luckerman. Hilda is survived by her five children: Suzanne Luckerman of Lee’s Summit, MO, David (Patty) Buck of Hartland, WI, Robert (Jenny) Buck of Pleasanton, CA, Kathy (David) Shapiro of Anderson, IN, and Dan Buck of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandchildren: Brian (Jennifer) Luckerman, Lisa (Mark) Fletcher, Steven (Stephanie) Buck, Ryan (Elissa) Buck, Angie (Pete) Lamarre, Chris (Jenny) Buck, Elizabeth (David) Spitdowski, Stephanie (Victor) Wieczorek; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Alex, Kate, Sara, Nathan, Zachary, Ian, Colin, Sean, Connor, Oliver, Colette, Austin, and Allison.

Visitation is scheduled at St. Lawrence Church, Lawrenceburg, IN, from 9am-11am on May 11, 2024. The Rosary will be recited at 10:20am, followed by a eulogy at 10:45am. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11am, with burial at Greendale Cemetery immediately after. A luncheon in the church basement will conclude the services.
