Ethel Mildred Levy Walker, 97, of Tifton passed away Monday, April 29, 2024, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church in Tifton with Pastor John Lehenbauer officiating. Mrs. Walker will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church in Tifton from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Born January 21, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Walker was the daughter of the late Albert and Emily (Petersen) Levy. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Fabian Martin; her second husband, Dutch Walker; one step-son, Larry Walker; and one sister, Eline Andersen. Ethel graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Mathematics. She was employed as an actuary at George B. Buck Consulting Actuaries. After retiring, Ethel and Dutch moved from Brooklyn to Tifton in 1979. She joined Peace Lutheran Church in Tifton. Ethel loved baking and making candy. She was known as the “Cookie Lady”. She won various awards for her baked goods. She did countless hours of volunteer work including delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed the Club 55 activities. Ethel was awarded the George A. Wright Memorial Award designating her as Tift County Senior Citizen of the Year in 2012. Ethel never met a stranger and everyone who met her loved her for her smile, cheerful disposition and her laugh. She was a very positive person.
Mrs. Walker is survived by a step-son, Tim Walker of Panama City, Florida; nieces, Shirley Lenhart of Warner Robins, Linda Myers of Tifton, Tina Marzan of Honolulu, Hawaii; Ruth Winsor of Frenchtown, New Jersey; a nephew, Paul Andersen of Holmdel, New Jersey; along with several other nieces and nephews, grandchildren, her loving church family and many, many friends.
