Gayle A. Chase, age 66, passed away peacefully from complications due to MS on April 28, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Gayle's journey began in Orange, Massachusetts, where she was raised alongside her four siblings with the late Jean Wade Chase and Willard Moore Chase. She was born to be a caregiver, a calling she pursued with dedication and compassion throughout her life.
Gayle graduated from Nursing School at the University of Texas in 1983, marking the beginning of a remarkable nursing career. In 1987, she married the late Richard Kwei and together they raised two boys, James and Gordon Kwei, in Dedham, Massachusetts.
Throughout her career, Gayle touched countless lives with expertise and devotion to nursing. She spent many years serving veterans at the VA Hospital in Boston, where her dedication to patient care was evident to all who knew her. Gayle's talents also shone as a surgical nurse at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She concluded her esteemed career at the Cataract and Laser Center, where her warmth and professionalism made a lasting impact on her colleagues and patients alike.
Outside of work, Gayle embraced life with enthusiasm and a sharp sense of humor. She was an avid sports enthusiast in her youth, finding passion and camaraderie playing sports and her favorite being field hockey. Gayle's love for sports continued throughout her life and attending the US Tennis Open in New York was always a highlight and a favorite.
Gayle’s artistic talents and keen eye for design enabled a joy for turning houses into warm and welcoming homes. She found peace and relaxation during vacations to Cape Cod, California Wine Country, Nevis, Turks and Caicos, and the Outer Banks, where she soaked in the beauty of nature and created cherished memories with her loved ones.
As her condition with MS escalated it became difficult for her to enjoy some of the activities she always loved to do, but she never gave in to the disease and as a nurse always looked for cures and solutions. Her positive attitude and determination were unrelenting.
Gayle is survived by her son James and his wife Laura and their daughter Payton of Dedham MA, son Gordon Kwei of Yardley PA, siblings Cynthia Johnson of Hallsville TX, W. Jamerson Chase Warwick, MA, Kathleen Howard Ashland, MA, Janice Fennelly Stoneham, MA, nephew Shawn Johnson and nieces Sydney Howard, Lauren Fennelly and Shelby Howard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Gayle's memory.
Visiting Hours for Gayle's life will be held on Monday, May 6 from 4-7pm at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Services and interment will be private.
