David (Dave) Winfield Tripp, 75, of Westport, MA, passed away peacefully at home with his wife Judy by his side on April 7, 2019, from complications from Lewy Body Disease. He was born April 21, 1943 in Dartmouth, MA to Carleton and Dorothy (Chateauneuf) Tripp.
Dave lived in Westport then Dartmouth before retiring in 1998 to Palermo, ME. He returned to Westport after becoming ill to be close to friends and family.
Dave was a member of the 1961 Dartmouth High School graduating class, and the 1965 class at UMass Dartmouth. After serving four years in the USAF, Dave worked for Aetna Life and Casualty in the Fall River, MA office. In 1974, he acquired his insurance license and was associated with Borden and Bosworth Insurance Agency, and became owner of W. & L. Howland Insurance agency specializing in yacht insurance. Dave was a member of the New Bedford Yacht Club, Seamans Bethel, and served as a Dartmouth town meeting member for several years. He had a great love of sailing on Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound. He also enjoyed working on and restoring his various sail boats.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Judy Conkling Tripp; two daughters Christy and husband Christian Cheetham of New Boston, NH, and Amy and her husband Eric Austin of N. Yarmouth, ME. He is also survived by granddaughters Emma Cheetham, Hannah Austin, Sarah Austin, Elizabeth Cheetham and grandson Eli Cheetham; sisters June and husband Arnold Buckley of Marlborough, CT and Sally and husband John Westmoreland of Tiverton, RI. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his beloved Border Collies.
A celebration of his life will be held at the New Bedford Yacht Club, 208 Elm St., S. Dartmouth, MA on Sunday, April 14th from 2-4pm.
