Howard L. “Sonny” Farley
HIRAM- Sonny passed away on May 15, 2018, from complications due to congestive heart failure and COPD. He was born on November 13, 1936, in Portland, Maine. He was the son of Alfred E. Farley and Florence M. Page. At an early age, his family moved to Hiram and lived with his grandmother, Daisy Edson Page Hamilton. Sonny graduated from Potter Academy in 1958. While in high school he was very active in sports and enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, and running cross country. Sonny married his wife, Carol L. Holmes, in 1961. The couple resided in Hiram and raised two children there. In his younger days, he was a volunteer firefighter for Hiram, and he was active with the local youth baseball team. Sonny worked for Thomas Hammond and Son for roughly 30 years and retired from work in 1995. He loved to spend time woodworking in his garage. Sonny also enjoyed watching sports and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He is predeceased by his sister Daisy Farley Johnson Collins who passed away in 2016. He is survived by his wife Carol, his son Jason, his daughter Tracey and her husband Michael Berube, and his grandchildren Nicole and Elizabeth Berube. Sonny will be interred at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Hiram. Sonny loved animals, especially cats, so please make a donation in his memory to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter. The family will be holding a private service at a later date.
