PORTLAND, OR - Christopher R. Kurs, age 40, a certified Sommelier, died peacefully Sunday night, December 31, at the Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital, surrounded by his family, from complications of Pneumonia. He was the life partner of Jordan McGee.
Christopher was born in Lowell, November 1977, the son of Rolando Kurs of Florida and Tewksbury, and the late Bertha L. (Gomez) Kurs. He was raised in Tewksbury and graduated from Notre Dame Academy high school in Fitchburg, MA. For the past decade, Chris lived in Acton, Maine, as his career in the restaurant business was centered in the Ogunquit area. He moved from Maine to Adams, OR last August.
Chris worked as a waiter, bartender and restaurant/bar manager for several Maine restaurants, and had earned his certification for Sommelier in 2016.
Besides his father, he leaves two sisters, Bibianne Fletcher of Tewksbury, and Leonor and her husband Fred Carpenito of Acton, MA; nieces and nephews, John Martino III, Nicholas and Nina Carpenito, Hillary, Brittany, and Drew Fletcher; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visiting hours Friday, Jan. 5, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury.
