Obituary

Fairfield County, Connecticut - Anna Kristine Johnson died of cancer at the age of 67 on the 19th of March, 2017, surrounded by her family in their Connecticut home. Kristine was born October 22nd, 1949, in Berlin, New Hampshire, a daughter of Dr. Edgar Johnson and Mrs. Florence Johnson. After graduating from Berlin High School in 1967, Kristine earned her undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1971 and proudly completed her graduate degree in business administration from Russell Sage College in 1998.

Kristine’s career was dedicated to raising money for education and research. In 2015, she retired as the Director of Planned Giving and Constituent Relations at the University of Chicago’s Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA where she served for nearly twenty years. Prior to this, Kristine worked in development at Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. Her devotion to philanthropy extended to her personal life, having served on the Parents’ Committees at both Phillips Exeter Academy and Princeton University.

A gifted artist, Kristine’s creative legacy is treasured by her family. She was a patient student of each medium she pursued, from painting, sculpture and ceramics in her early years to needlepoint, graphic design, beadwork and basket weaving later in life. Most recently, Kristine’s travels throughout Montana and Wyoming sparked a passion for photography. Her portfolio of the western landscape, Sioux Indians, rodeos and Yellowstone wildlife are a testament to her talent and also to her deep love of Western life.

Kristine was an avid traveler. Her experience with Outward Bound included expeditions to Hurricane Island, ME, and Baja, CA. She was most proud of her trek up Mt. Kenya in Africa. Kristine found a home away from home at the Lonesome Spur Ranch in Bridger, MT where she delighted in riding horses, herding cattle and participating in reenactments of the Battle of the Little Big Horn.

She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Daley Popescu and Heather Daley Lamberton; sons-in-law, Daniel Popescu and Stephen Lamberton; siblings, Fredrik Johnson, Eric Johnson and Linnea Mangan; and five grandchildren.
