Edward H. Sancomb, 79, of Hopkinton and formerly of Franklin died June 16 at Brigham & Women’s hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of Marilyn A. (Ristaino) Sancomb for 56 years.
Born in Worcester, February 27, 1934, the son of the late Henry R. and Rose (LaForce) Sancomb, Mr. Sancomb was raised and had lived in Franklin for most of his life until moving to Hopkinton in 2005.
He was a graduate of Franklin High School, class of 1952 and a graduate of Northeastern University, class of 1957.
After serving in the Army he worked as a manager at Trinity Optical in Framingham. Mr. Sancomb attained the rank of First Lieutenant while serving in the Army.
He later was the owner of Franklin Optical in Franklin for 26 years.
Edward was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church. He was also a member of the Franklin Knights of Columbus and later a member of the Franklin Elks. He most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and spent summers on Cape Cod where he also played in the Cape Cod Old Timer’s softball league for 8 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Suzanne M. Hilbrunner and her husband William H. Hilbrunner III of Groton, Edward J. Sancomb of Medway, Bonnie L. Sancomb and her boyfriend Philip L. Clarkin of Hopkinton and Daniel R. Sancomb and his girlfriend Shannon Boyle of Billerica.
He was the brother of the late Barbara R. Allain.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Renee S. Hilbrunner, Michael E. Hilbrunner, Timothy W. Hilbrunner of Groton and Brenna M. Sancomb of Billerica. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday June 21 in St. Mary’s Church, Franklin at 11:00.
Burial will be private.
Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00-10:45 a.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin.
