Daniel F. Pires, 52, of New Bedford, died June 25, 2008 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was the husband of Rebecca L. "Becky" (Chapman) Pires.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the son of the late Jose L. and Justa G. (Fernandes) Pires, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Dan was employed as a credit manager with the Credit Information Bureau in Warwick, RI for many years. He enjoyed writing for the Standard-Times first in the "Dine Out" section and presently in the sports section covering his beloved Patriots.
He enjoyed attending his son's sporting events and his daughter's dance recitals, a healthy lifestyle, the New England Patriots and being published "above the fold" in the newspaper.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Taylor Pires of New Bedford; a daughter, Jillian Pires of New Bedford; 2 brothers, David Pires and Antonio Pires, both of New Bedford; 6 sisters, Maria Lessa and her husband José, Alcinda Gonzales and her husband Ayres, and Elizabeth Ferreira and her husband Tony, all of New Bedford, Eugenia Graca and her husband John of Taunton, Julia Benjamin of Nassau, Bahamas and Victoria Pires and her husband Jack of Sacramento, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Monday, June 30th at 10:45 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 12 Noon. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Sunday, June 29th from 3-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CIB/ Pires Education Fund, c/o Credit Information Bureau, 70 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, RI 02888.
