Obituary

Worcester-Marlene A. (Gafvert) Tribandis, 74, most commonly known as “the café and cookie lady” at the local Bob’s Furniture passed away on Friday, June 24th after a brief illness. Her husband, Joseph F. Tribandis passed away in 2001. Marlene leaves her three sons, Thomas N., Martin A and his wife Jamie and Steve Tribandis all of Worcester and three deeply cherished grandchildren, Kyle, Dana and Jason Tribandis. She was also predeceased by her longtime companion, William J. Sweeney.
Marlene was born in Worcester the daughter of Axel Henry and Mary (Platukis) Gafvert. She grew up in Millbury and graduated from Millbury High School in 1960. She lived on Cape Cod for many years and owned and operated Bayberry Bookstore in Hyannis, with her longtime companion William. She then moved back to Worcester and worked at Bob’s Furniture. Her primary calling was to be “Nana”, a grandmother and best friend wrapped into one.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 30th at 11:30 am at St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St. Arrangements are in the care of CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St.
