SPENCER; David M. Ela, Sr., 86, died Friday, May 6 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.He leaves his wife Lucille E. (Cassavant) Ela, a son, David M. Ela Jr. and his wife Nancy of Everett, a daughter, Virginia M. Ela-Snowdon of East Sandwich, a brother-in-law, Eugene Cassavant and his wife Phyllis of Shrewsbury, six grandchildren, David M. Ela, III and his wife Meta Ann, Victoria E. Panarese and her husband Jonathan, Michael F. Ela and his companion Ms. Ryan Prendergast, David C. Snowdon III and his wife Becca, Andrew W. Snowdon and his wife Tricia, Charles-Daniel B. Snowdon and his wife Jennifer, five great-grandchildren; Ryan, Kamden, Willow Rose, Eleanor and Landon, and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by a special niece Patti Rose. He was pre-deceased by brothers Robert B. Ela, Jr., Charles W. Ela and a sister Ruth Thibeault.Born in Worcester, he was the son of Robert B. & Alberta M. (Martin) Ela.Mr. Ela was a Compliance and Review officer for the US Department of Agriculture and he was also a National Director for Equal Employment Opportunity for the USDA.He served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserve.Mr. Ela was an avid golfer, enjoyed tending to his personal grounds at Point of Pines, and was a traveler of the great museums, historical landmarks and sights of the western world with his personal docent, his wife Lucille. He had a great love of animals especially his four legged companion "Dodger".He was a member of the Sons of American Revolution, Mayflower Society, Greendale Retired Mens Club, a former member of the Spencer Exchange Club, a former past president of the Stiles Lake Association and the first moderator of the Stiles Lake Water District.Mr. Ela's family appreciates all the love and support given to him by the people at LifeCare Center of Auburn, the exceptional care received at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, and the Spencer Police Department for ensuring his safety.A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. A calling hour will precede the Service from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mary, Queen of the Rosary Food Pantry, 60 Maple St., Spencer, MA 01562.
