Brenda J. Rather, 56, of New Bedford died Tuesday March 30, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Boston, the daughter of Joyce (Stokes) Rather and the late Horace L. Rather, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Brenda was formerly employed in the housekeeping department at St. Luke's Hospital for 35 years until her illness.
She loved going to church and listening to Gospel music.
Survivors include her mother; a son, Anthony F. Rather of New Bedford and his father Tony Oliver of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Tyrek and Taurion Rather; her siblings, Debbie, Tina, Pam, Donna, Bruce, and Shawn, all of Boston; Anthony's grandparents, Carmen and Donald Oliver; Anthony's companion, Stevi Mello; Brenda's companion Mark Hunt; her dear friends, Louise, Sandy, and Robin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late Tammy, Sabrina, and Patricia.
