Norman Robert Smith 79, of Clarksville died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Gateway Medical Center.
The funeral service will be 3:00 PM Monday March 28, 2011 at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with David Mackens officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Norman was born June 6, 1931 in Joliet. IL, the son of the late Eleanor Augusta Russell and Mervin Raymond Smith. Norm was retired from Caterpillar International, a member of Caterpillar Retiree Club and was a protestant. He enjoyed camping with his wife and family. He loved following the activites of his children and grandchildren as they grew up. He graduated from Joliet Jr. College.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Elsie Baggett Smith and his children: Sharon Nevada Smith, Seattle, WA; James Smith, Joliet, IL; Britt G. Dooley, South Wilmington, IL; Dr. Suzanne Dooley-Hash, Chelsea, MI. Grandchildren : Elizabeth (Matthew) Cacello, South Wilmington, IL; Trisha, Jacob, Benjamin Hash all of Chelsea, MI; Kathryn Wallem, Providence, RI; Sarah and Jamie Esparza, sisters of Elizabeth Cacello. Great grandchildren: Ryan, Maya and Lyla Cacello. Brothers: Lester (Beverly) Smith Sr, of Cresthill, IL; Dale (Sonja) Smith of Mesa, AZ; and Noel (Donna) Smith of Sedona, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Wilma Jean Fort Smith. Cremation will take place after the service.
