Obituary

Mr. Louis S. Tokarz, of Taunton, died Thursday, September 2 in Morton Hospital following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Jean M. (O’Keefe) Tokarz. He was born 77 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Joseph and Magdalena (Karcz) Tokarz. He was educated in Taunton, having graduated with the Class of 1951 from the former Msgr. James Coyle High School, and had attended the Rittner School of Floral Design in Boston. He was a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Tokarz had owned and operated Mason’s Flower Studio in Taunton for 37 years. He was a member of the Msgr. Coyle Council # 82, Knights of Columbus, the Polish-American Citizens Club, the Taunton Florists Association, and the Friends of Taunton Public Library. He enjoyed the arts, especially the Boston Pops Orchestra, the Star Players of Bristol County and was a supporter of the Taunton Art Association. An active communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Mr. Tokarz served on the monthly Church Dinner Committee, the Altar Decorating Committee, and was an avid supporter of the St. Jude the Apostle Parish Choir.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: a son: Jeffrey M. Tokarz and his wife, Kimberly, of East Taunton; a daughter: Julie A. O’Brien and her husband, Kevin, of Taunton; a brother: Edward M. Tokarz of Raynham; a sister: Anne B. Sowiecki of Taunton; six grandchildren: Justine O’Brien, Lindsey O’Brien, Kailyn Tokarz, Arianna O’Brien, Madelyn Tokarz and Jaclyn Tokarz, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Tokarz was also the brother of the late Walter, Joseph, Stanley and Francis Tokarz, Nellie Corcoran and Josephine LaPensee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Jude the Apostle Church, 249 Whittenton Street, on Saturday, September 18 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Friday, September 17, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Floral offerings are welcome, and expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the St. Jude the Apostle Parish Choir, c/o 249 Whittenton Street, Taunton, Ma., 02780.
