Obituary

Walter M. Hunter, 76, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 4 P.M., Saturday, August 28 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Gordon and Rev. David Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Hunter was born March 19, 1934 in Wilcox County to the late Walter T. and Faustine Guest Hunter. He graduated from Colquitt County High School in 1952. After moving to Fitzgerald in 1956 he worked as an electrician for International Brothers of Electrical Workers Local 1531 for over thirty years and then owned and operated Hunter’s Bait & Tackle Shop and Hunter’s Motors since 1980. Mr. Hunter was a member of Crossview Baptist Church (formerly Northside Baptist). He was an avid sports supporter. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by two daughters: Bridgette C. Murray and Amy H. Owens, both of Fitzgerald; 3 grandchildren: Michelle Murray, Nicole Murray and Michael Owens and 1 great grandson, Hunter Mack McCrimmon; sister and brother-in-law: Carol Faye & Tom Stapleton of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth White Hunter, a son, Walter Mike Hunter, a son-in-law, John Michael Owens and two brothers, Wayne Hunter and Calvin D. Hunter
