Obituary

Louis P. “Jiggs” Bettencourt, Jr., 75, of Main Rd., Westport died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Tufts Medical Center, Boston after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anjos (Rodrigues) Bettencourt and was also husband of the late Eva (Oliveira) Bettencourt.

Born in Little Compton, RI, son of the late Louis P. and Lucy (Romano) Bettencourt, he had lived in Westport for most of his life. He was a Korean War veteran. Prior to retirement, he worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 4. Mr. Bettencourt was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Westport and Club Madeirense S.S. Sacramento, Inc. of New Bedford.

Including his wife, survivors include a son: Louis Peter Bettencourt of Lunenburg, MA; 4 daughters: Ellen Normandin of Tampa, FL, Lori B. Mello of Tiverton, Heidi J. Bettencourt of Dartmouth and Christine Boris of Ridgefield, CT; 2 brothers: Robert Bettencourt of Tiverton and Roland Bettencourt of Westport; 2 sisters: Elsie Bettencourt of Westport and Lucy Bettencourt of Lincoln, RI; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late Joseph “Sonny” Bettencourt and John Bettencourt.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, August 6, 2010 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours Thursday 5 – 8 P.M.

Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
