Obituary

GRACE BARBARA CLIFFORD
May 12, 1926 – May 28, 2010

Our mother, Grace Clifford, left us on Friday, May 28 – just a few days after her 84th birthday. She had a tough go of it over the last several months, but she hung in there as long as she could. She always took great care of herself and this is the reason she was able to live as long as she did, even though she suffered from serious heart failure.

We have known for some time now that our beautiful, compassionate, caring, and generous Mother would not live for much longer, so we have all been grieving for her in our own way for a while. However, nothing compares to the actual loss of someone who is loved so dearly by so many, especially her children. Ma was the best mother one could ask for, a trusted friend to both family and friends. She was kind and appreciated any kindness shown to her. We mustn’t forget she also had a great sense of humor.

In the words of Ralph Prizio, who we all love very much… “She was truly a wonderful woman with a heart of gold, a sharp mind, and a welcoming personality that was all inclusive and non judgmental. To have one of those attributes would be enough, to embody all of them is something that we can all aspire to. She leaves a legacy of kindness and love and there has to be a special place in the hereafter for people who have lived that kind of life. How lucky you are to have had this woman as your Mom, how felicitous it is for me to have known her. We can all learn from her goodness.”

These are words from someone who has known our Mother for a much shorter period of time than most of us who loved her, yet in that time she made this kind of impact on him.

We know this to be true, too, for the staff at Glen Ridge Nursing Home by the fondness they expressed for her to us when Ma was dying. She only lived there a couple of months, and had been there for rehab a couple of other times. Staff remembered her when she came to live there, and they were very kind and caring to her and truly enjoyed her company and she theirs. Ma adopted Glen Ridge as her “home” very quickly and was very happy and content there. Above all, this is attributed to the staff there and also to the pleasant environment. It was a nice place for her to be.

We could go on and on, but mere words cannot fully express our love for this fabulous woman nor how much we will all miss her.

Love,

Daron, Robin, Suzanne and Jeffrey
