Genny J. Purdy, 86, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Graveside services will be held 4 P.M., Saturday, April 17, 2010 in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Mike Ruffin officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:30 until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Purdy was born October 27, 1923 in Stockton, Georgia to the late William R. and Rillie Young Jefferson. She graduated from Lanier County High School in 1942, married her husband in 1946 before moving to Fitzgerald in 1951 from Valdosta. Mrs. Purdy was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills and Irwin Manufacturing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Genesis Sunday School Class.
She is survived by a daughter & son-in-law: Jennifer P. & Luke Malcolm of Athens; grandson: Nathaniel Malcolm, a student at the University of Georgia; step-grandson, Jamison (Lauren) of Philidelphia, PA, as well as, several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death her husband, W.E. “Bill” Purdy,Jr., three brothers and two sisters.
