Obituary

AUBURN___ Katherine Reidy-Shablin, of Auburn, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in the Rose Monahan Hospice House, Worcester with her husband at her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Helen (Safko) Reidy and the late William H. Reidy. Her father, William H. Reidy, predeceased her in 2007. She is survived by her husband, David, her mother, Helen Reidy; her brother, Dr. Dennis Reidy, all of Auburn; her uncle and aunt, Robert Reidy and his wife, Virginia of Worcester; cousins and friends. She also leaves two cats, Bailey and Sassy, who followed her around the house and continue to look for her. Kathie lived in Auburn all of her life. She was a graduate of the former Marian Central Catholic High School in Worcester. Kathie attended Worcester State College and graduated, magna cum laude from Nichols College in Dudley. At her death, she was Chief Financial Officer of Omni Services, Inc. in Worcester. Previously, she had worked as controller for Allied Manufacturing in Worcester, was the assistant controller for Victor Management/The Fair Department Stores and also worked in the accounting department at the Chancery of the Diocese of Worcester. Kathie enjoyed being at the ocean and vacationing in Maine. She was a big patron of the arts and loved going to the theatre, shows, concerts and dance recitals. She also enjoyed going to Fenway Park and rooting for the Red Sox. Kathie was very artistic and created and painted some beautiful ceramic pieces which we will always cherish. She had a wide variety of interests and hobbies, including woodcarving and had obtained the rank of brown belt in karate.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to 3 West at UMASS Memorial Medical Center and to the staff at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, for the compassionate and loving care provided to Kathie. Kathie's kind, sweet and caring ways touched many people. She will be deeply missed but not forgotten.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday April 6, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Worcester. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum, Worcester. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday April 5, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
