Obituary

John B. Thunberg, “Thumby” 46 years, of Halifax, died March 16, 2010. Born in Weymouth he was the son of John B. and Margo (Signorini) Thunberg of Brockton and father of Brittany and Lucas Thunberg of Scituate. John was raised in Brockton and was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1981. During high school he was a member of the executive committee and hockey team. Following graduation he enlisted in the Coast Guard. He was stationed in New London, Conn. and Portland, Maine where he played on the Coast Guard hockey team and enjoyed his time at sea. After leaving the Coast Guard he pursued a surveying career and had been employed by several engineering firms. For several years he worked at Daylor Consulting Group in Braintree before starting his own company, Thunberg Consulting, Inc.11 years ago. John was known for his great sense of humor and quick wit. He was an avid golfer; die hard Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan and also enjoyed spending time on the Cape boating with friends. John will be sorely missed by his family and dog George.

He is also survived by two sisters, Jeanette DeWalters of Miller Place, NY and Kirsten Svenson of West Bridgewater; two nephews Alex Thunberg and Cameron Svenson and two nieces Victoria and Olivia Svenson.

Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Sunday 2-4pm with a prayer service at 4pm. A Graveside Service will be held in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne Monday at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name may be made to the Thunberg Scholarship Fund, c/o Scituate Federal Savings Bank, 72 Front Street, Scituate, MA 02066.
